Index fund
A fund that copies a market index, such as a list of large companies, instead of picking winners.
Index funds are usually cheap because nobody is paid to choose investments. You get roughly the market's return minus a small fee, and that includes its falls. They are a common choice for long-term investing, not a promise of gains.
