1% rule
A common rule of thumb: plan to lose no more than 1% of your balance on any single trade.
At 1% risk, ten losses in a row leave about 90.4% of the account. At 5%, only about 59.9% is left. For many traders 1% is a ceiling, not a target, and beginners often go lower. It is a habit, not a law.
